Prior Art is all information that has been made available to the public in any form before a given date that might be relevant to a patent's claims of originality. If an invention has been described in prior art, a patent on that invention is not valid.

Ideally you should proceed to hand in a patent application as soon the idea strikes you. However, applying for a patent requires time and resources that you may not have at that time.

Setrue Patent Suite has created a unique Idea Vault. This service allows you to safely store your idea for later use. For a small annual fee the Idea Vault will protect your confidentiality and provide you with the proof you require regarding the exact time and date that the idea was vaulted. Once you register your idea with Setrue Patent Suite you typically have some time to file a provisional or patent application (the amount of time you have secured till filing depends on the patent office you shall be filing with).
