Search Tips

  1. Setrue Patent Engine really understands the meaning of your query.

Don’t enter “safety car seat kids
Do enter “a safety car seat for kids

  2. Be as detailed and expressive as possible in your search query

The more details you provide the more information Setrue Search Engine has to work with, giving you better results.
You can enter “child safety seat
You will get better results with “child safety seat that will turn top-side up in water

3. Make sure that you Capitalize names

Setrue Patent Search Engine needs your help in pointing out names of places, people and things. Otherwise, the actual meaning of the words will be analyzed and “palm pilot” could mean “the person that steers an airplane by hand”. We plan to enhance our automatic detection ability in future versions.

Don’t enter “A system for improved missile guidance using a kalman filter”
Do enter “A system for improved missile guidance using a Kalman filter”

Don’t enter “Using a gauss-newton algorithm  for estimating a prediction error”
Do enter “Using a Gauss-Newton algorithm  for estimating a prediction error”

  4. Do not ask questions, make statements

Setrue Patent Search Engine cannot answer questions. It is able to find the most relevant information to your query statements. So please phrase your queries in sentences that do not contain; what, who, why, where, when and how.

Don’t ask “How to make a watch water resistant?”
Do enter “Making  a watch water resistant”

Don’t ask “When does ignition occur in an internal combustion engine?”
Do enter “The timing of ignition in an internal combustion engine”

  5. Use proper punctuation whenever possible

Setrue Patent Search Engine is able to understand not only the words in the sentence, but also the full sentence structure. Therefore, adding punctuation will help remove ambiguity and clarify the meaning of your query.

  6. Please use queries of up to 30 words.

For the beta launch, we are limiting queries to up to 30 words.

  Good search examples

Below is a list of search examples that show Setrue Patent Search Engine ability to understand what you really mean. Keyword search will often fail since it only matches words, without understanding the intended relationship between the words. Click the link to execute the following search examples.

An illumination device with a balloon neck attachment

A system for creating a visual representation of anticipated weather conditions including cloud images

Assessing and managing risk and calculating compliance scores

enabling a rapid temperature rise of an object by irradiating light

  The power of semantic search

The Setrue semantic patent search engine analyses full sentences to understand the real meaning. This process is carried out on your query, as well as on the searched content. The search engine then proceeds to compare the query and possible answers ranking them according to their relevancy.

“Books by kids” is very different then “kids books” or “books about kids”. This is where keyword searches fail and semantic searches prevail.

“John eats cake” – active sentence structure, “cake eaten by John” – passive sentence structure and “three layer chocolate cake was devoured by John yesterday” – complex sentence structure. The three sentences have very similar meanings even though they are structured completely differently. The semantic search engine is able to overcome this complexity and will rank them very closely.

The key is the understanding. By fully understanding what you mean in your query, Setrue Patent Search Engine is able to find all relevant results and disregard ones that do not have the same meaning.
